Rain, rain, go away…

Wow! I can not believe the amount of rain that we have had over the past 8 days. Day time is rain-free enough but night time has been thunderstorm after thunderstorm. I say ‘rain-free’ because as sunny as each day has been the increased humidity has not allowed my top-soil to dry enough for me to walk on it. As it is, if I was considering seeding it, I sink down about 4 inches with every step. I know this because I tried it :-) Continue reading ‘Rain, rain, go away…’

Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Orlando

(For Erika –>)

While not the best of the three movies, and I must confess that while watching the second I had no idea that a cliff-hanger was coming at it’s end, Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End was still an entertaining movie. Although the plot and story seemed to twist and writhe back upon itself, the acting and humour was very entertaining. The movie had its moments of fun and it’s moments of darkness; it was just about what you would expect from a movie in the Pirates franchise.

Erika was impressed by both Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp and I can not honestly fault her for those choices. In the end Mr. Bloom that was the top pick, making her swoon (while I was sitting right next to her, no less :-) ).

Me? Well I was more focused on Keira Knightley and, well, the crazy monkey. Keira’s outfit and pose is very sexy. And the monkey? Come on! He’s just too cute and funny! :-)

Backyard Update … almost done!

Well I received my top-soil a week from today and, after the generosity of my next door neighbor, I was able to use this small tractor to help spread my top-soil around the yard on Thursday evening. Here is a picture of my neighbor doing her yard, taken by my father while I was at work. Continue reading ‘Backyard Update … almost done!’

Movie: Shrek the Third

I went to see Shrek the Third on Sunday evening with Erika and found it to be a throughly enjoyable movie. It was very funny in bits and worth the money.

Yeah, that is not exactly a stellar review but, honestly, I am not sure what else to write. The animation was what you would expect and the story and voice acting was good. Was it an awesome movie? No, but if you liked Shrek  and Shrek 2, then you will like Shrek 3. If you were amazed, surprised and pulled in by Shrek when you first saw it in the theatres and expect to get that kind of experience again, you will not find that here.

Paved Driveway

Well the driveway was paved on Monday – thanks to my parents for coming up and seeing that it was done right – and I received my 26 cubic feet of top soil. Now All I have to do is get the motivation up to spread it. According to the weather, the weekend may or may not cooperate.

Dirt Ain’t Cheap

Which, for some reason does not surprise me; it could just be my expectations. Everyone ‘in the know’ that I talk to says that $15 a cubic yard is a very good price to pay for topsoil – especially when you mention that the top soil is screened.

Now I am not sure what kind of process the soil gets screened through (background check, pointed political questions, income analysis or just a grey, metal mesh) but I am getting my hopes up about it having fewer rocks that the dirt/clay that currently inhabits my property. The 25 cubic yards that I ordered should be enough to cover the back and side bits in about 4 inches of coverage depth. That should provide a good quality base for grass to grow on.

Backyard update … another one

Get used to them :-)

Yeah! Another weekend spent toiling in the sun. And, although I loved every minute of it, and am not liking the dull ache in my arms each night. My forearms and hands ache like, well, you wouldn’t believe! Continue reading ‘Backyard update … another one’
