Any Newfoundlanders out there will be happy to read the following news report from the CBC. In a nutshell, Marine Atlantic will be adding a 203 metre, 25 knot high speed ferry on the Port-Aux-Basques/North Sydney run. This vessel is being added to fleet instead of acting as a replacement – which is good news considering the state and number of repairs that the existing fleet has had to go through.
This vessel is not the infamous high speed ‘Vomit Comit’ Catamaran that was tasked to the route a few years ago. I am not sure what gifted individual, in that case, decided that an essentially flat bottomed boat would handle the open sea well. It’s nickname was rightly earned.
EDIT: Here is a link to a site with some pictures of the vessel in her previous life.
It’s about time!
You think it spews black smoke all the time, or just on days when it’s having it’s picture taken?
They probably got out the best picture … the one that would pull at the heart strings of maritime fishermen. Ah the string smell of the big ‘ole diesel engine in the morning
